Because we have gathered together at least a full household over the years, we would also welcome a contribution to our honeymoon in Europe next year.
Park Pass
A Parks Canada Discovery Pass is required for anyone stopping in Jasper National Park. The fee is $19.60 per day for a family / group of up to seven people. An annual pass is $136.40, which is equivalent to 7 days worth of daily fees, so anyone staying for a full week might as well get the annual pass. It may also be worthwhile if you plan on visiting any other of Canada's numerous National Parks within the next year. You may also upgrade your daily passes to an annual pass at the gates if you change your mind. They can be ordered online here or purchased at the gates as you drive in.
Things to See and Do
Most of you know that Jasper holds many fond memories for us. It is not as commercial or bustling as other mountain towns, but we have just had too many good times here not to love it. Some other things to see and do while you're here include:
- Jasper Tramway - Bring your hiking shoes to make the final push to the top on foot. The views are worth it!
- Hiking - Some of our favourite hikes include Maligne Canyon, Athabasca Falls, Pyramid Lake, and Old Fort Point.
- Cycling - Jasper has many separated paths and trails to explore.
- Rafting - Ok, we haven't actually done this, but we saw lots of people go by on rafts when we were at Becker's last time. Looks like fun!
- Jasper Museum - Great for a rainy afternoon.
- Jasper Visitor's Centre - Right in the middle of town in an historic stone house (you can't miss it). This doubles as a national park office and a tourist bureau. Any additional information about the area can be obtained here.
Other Needs
Jasper has excellent cell phone coverage. Data roaming charges for smart phones/tablets will depend on your provider however Becker's does have free wifi for guests.
